HACAN East welcomes Chancellor’s decision to put Air Passenger Duty on private jets

HACAN East, the East-London based campaign group which represents people under the Heathrow and City Airport flight paths, has welcomed the decision by Chancellor George Osborne to put Air Passenger Duty on private jets from 2013.
HACAN East Chair John Stewart said, “It has been an anomaly that that ordinary people going on holiday pay a tax on their tickets while wealthy private jet owners get off scot-free.”
Stewart added: “The many private jets which use City Airport bring little to the local community except more noise and pollution. Their contribution to the local economy is tiny. The local cafes are not full of private jet owners enjoying a ‘full english’ breakfast for under a fiver.”
